Effah-Dartey launches bid for NPP General Secretary

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party,  (NPP) Captain Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey (retd), has pledged to bring a new air of freshness and dynamism to the office of the General Secretary position of the party.
"My background as a previous presidential contestant, a former deputy minister of state and former MP for Berekum, assuming the office of the General Secretary would benefit the party tremendously," he stated when he launched his bid for the position at a ceremony in Accra yesterday.

Mr Effah-Dartey, who contested the position of the flag bearer of the party in 2008 but was disqualified,  stressed that his experience as a soldier and lawyer put him in a good stead. This is his second attempt at contesting the General Secretary position of the NPP.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic soon after he had launched his bid for the position, he declared, "The NPP needs a new crop of leaders who can win the 2016 elections".

Chanting a new slogan, "Alert and win," Captain Effah-Dartey called on party supporters to unite and work hard for victory in 2016.

He stated that vigilance and alertness were vital and key to winning Election 2016.

At the ceremony he told supporters that if elected, he would not make comments that would embarrass the party, especially in his interviews and speeches.

It will be recalled that the party's General Secretary, Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, was convicted for criminal contempt following some disparaging remarks he made against the presiding judge of the 2012 presidential election petition. His comments were considered by critics as embarrassing, not only to himself, but to the entire opposition party.

Capt  Effah Dartey told the Daily Graphic that his chances were very bright and would soon be visiting all the 275 constituencies with his message of '' alert and win.''

He attributed lack of vigilance and alertness on the part of NPP rank and file as the central cause of the defeat in both the 2008 and 2012 elections.

'' I disagree with those who have concluded that the NPP is winning in two regions out of 10,'' he told the Daily Graphic when asked of his view on the performance of NPP in the past elections.

Rather, Mr Effah Dartey argued that vigilance on the part of the NPP was weak in those regions where it did not perform well.

He was optimistic that the party would regain political power under his stewardship as the party's scribe.
