Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said there would be nothing like "Woyome scandal" under his presidency as has been witnessed by President Atta Mills' administration.
He accused President Mills of not being in charge of his own administration, hence such financial scandal under his watch. The NPP leader therefore appealed to Ghanaians to vote for him and the NPP to come and restore hope and bring back the economic fortunes which were left by President Kuffour administration.
Nana Akufo Addo said this when he addressed enthusiastic party supporters at a rally at Kyebi as part of his tour of the Eastern Region, which began on Saturday.
The tour dubbed "Restore Hope Tour" would afford the NPP Presidential Candidate and his running mate, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the opportunity to visit areas including Abuakwa North, Abuakwa South, New Juaben South, Kade and New Juaben North constituencies.
Nana Akufo-Addo indicated that the reason for starting the campaign from his hometown was because "charity begins at home" and that it was important for him to start from home so he could get the support and blessings from family members and sympathizers. He said the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government had nothing good for the people of Ghana, looking at the unbearable hardships Ghanaians were experiencing.
Nana Akufo-Addo said the NDC government seemed to be taking Ghana backwards instead of implementing policies that would help improve the living standards of the people. The NPP flag bearer said the National Health Insurance Scheme was currently in limbo, making it difficult for the poor to access good health-care. He urged Ghanaians to vote for him and the NPP to come and continue the good policies and programmes to move the country forward.
Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo, former Minister of Finance, urged the people of Abuakwa to see Nana Akufo-Addo as their son and rally behind him to win the presidency in December. He said he was optimistic that Nana Akufo-Addo would win the 2012 presidential election. He appealed to all NPP sympathizers and supporters to campaign vigorously for the NPP flag bearer.
Mr Atta Akyea, Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa South, on his part said the victory of the party depended on the youth and asked them not to fail the people of Ghana who expected the NPP to rescue them from the difficulties under Professor Mills' government.
Nana Akufo-Addo is being accompanied by his campaign manager, Mr Boakye Agyarko, Mr Lord Commey, the campaign's director of operations, Mr Boakye Danquah Adu, parliamentary candidate for Abuakwa North and other national and regional officials.
