AAK NCCE holds Parliamentary debate for candidates

The Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on Wednesday organized a parliamentary debate for aspiring Members of Parliament (MPs) of the constituency.

The debate enabled Parliamentary candidates to make their plans known to the electorates.        

It was held at the Abura-Dunkwa Durbar Grounds where a large number of people in the constituency listened to the three of the five expected candidates, the incumbent MP, Mr. Anthony Christian Dadzie, National Democratic Congress (NDC), who is seeking re-election, Mr. Job Acquah-Markin, New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Mr. Francis Kwabena Eduako of the Progressive People's Party (PPP) outline their vision.
Mr. Victor Odoom of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) and Mr. Kwame Adu-Ofori of the People's National Convention (PNC) were absent.      

Questions on education, youth unemployment, corruption, housing, agriculture and health were asked which were answered in Fanti (the local dialect).      

Mr. Dadzie of the NDC, pledged to continue the projects he had initiated in the Constituency which include the construction of a three classrooms unit at Abakrampa, supporting the education of 1,785 students with bursaries, distribution of book worth GHC6,000 and the construction of an Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre.    

 He said currently, a project for the moulding of bricks to support local housing scheme  which involves the construction of 400 affordable houses to enable people own houses was underway in the district.       

Mr. Acquah-Markin of the NPP, enumerated a number of projects executed in the Constituency during the NPP administration which include the construction of 24 schools and eight teacher's quarters, 60 computers to schools in the area, and appealed to the people to give him the nod to  provide more schools equipped with computers to improve the teaching and learning of ICT.     

He said he will work with the District Chief Executives (DCE) for the area in to bring about development , advocate for incentives for teachers to motivate them to work harder and build a modern library for children to enhance the delivery of quality education.   

On agriculture, Mr. Markin said, in order to encourage the youths into agriculture, he will provide equipment like tractors for ploughing and pesticides to facilitate mechanized agriculture.   

He said, "We create wealth through health" therefore health is very important to every person and due to that, when voted into power, he will help improve on the ambulance service and build a mother's centre purposely for pregnant women    

Mr Eduako of the PPP on his part, pledged to use 20 per cent of his common fund to build teachers' quarters and also build houses to provide accommodation for workers  as a strategy to attract people to work in the area.  

On agriculture, he indicated that he will use 30 per cent of his common fund as subsidies on farming inputs to attract the youths into farming to generate more employment.    

In their concluding remarks, the candidates advised the people to comport themselves during the December elections for peace to prevail. 

Earlier, the District Director of the NCCE, Mr. Ebenezer Dadzie entreated the electorates to accept whoever wins the elections to ensure that peace continue to prevail in the country.
