Asante-Akim South Election Security Task force inaugurated

A seven-member Election Security Taskforce to oversee the peaceful conduct of the December polls in the Asante-Akim South District, has been inaugurated.

It would closely monitor the security situation in the area before, during and after the elections.

The members are drawn from the Ghana Police Service, Bureau of National Investigations, Electoral Commission, Immigration, Ghana National Fire Service, the District Assembly and the Information Services Department.

Mr De-graft Fokuo, District Chief Executive, performing the inaugural ceremony, advised the members to be neutral in the discharge of their duties and that they should also be fair to all the contesting political parties.

He reminded them to work closely with the District Electoral Office and the Inter-Party Advisory Committee to enable then to adequately address any security concerns.

He gave the assurance that the assembly would provide them with the needed support.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Sandow Latebu, District Commander and Chairman of the Taskforce, called for cooperation from all the stakeholders to make the elections peaceful.

He said they would identify all flashpoints and beef up security in those areas to avert disturbances ahead of the polls.
