Northern Regional Elections Security Task-force inaugurated

The Northern Regional Elections Security Task Force has been inaugurated with the charge to work to ensure an incident-free election in December.    

The Task Force, made up of personnel from all the security services in the region, comprises of six committees charged with specific duties to protect the sanctity of the elections.   

The committees, which are chaired by senior and experienced security officers, included Ballot, Investigation and Intelligence, Transport and Logistics, Media / Education and Publicity, Finance, and Personnel Mobilization.    

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP)George Tuffour, Chairman of the Task-Force who inaugurated it in Tamale on Thursday, called on members to exhibit professionalism in the discharge of their duties for successful elections.   

He said "This will make the public to have confidence in us and not point accusing fingers at us."   

DCOP Tuffour, who is also the Northern Regional Police Commander, called for teamwork and objectivity on part of members of the Task Force to ensure effective policing of the electoral process.   

He assured of the readiness of the Task Force to proactively deal with any challenges or situations that might threaten the peace of the region during this electioneering season.   

Mr San Nasamu Asabigi, Deputy Northern Regional Minister, urged members of the Task Force to be mindful of their utterances to avoid being tagged or misrepresented, which could cast a slur on their integrity.   

Mr Asabigi called for continuous education of the public especially the youth to refrain from acts that could create violence.

He assured of the government's commitment to ensure violent-free elections and expressed confidence in the competence of members of the Task Force to effectively discharge their duties.   

Mr Eric Afari, Northern Regional Commander of the Ghana Immigration Service, called on members of the Task Force to suppress their personal biases and approach their duties with integrity and to uphold the national interest.   

Mr Godwin Tawiah Okley, a Deputy Northern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, said the Commission would be diligent in the discharge of its duties to ensure a successful election.
