NPP announces dates for Parliamentary primaries in newly created constituencies

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday announced the schedule for Parliamentary primaries of the 45 newly created constituencies by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Mr Kwadjo Owusu Afriyie, General Secrtary of the NPP, in a press conference, said the Party had never opposed the creation of the constituencies by the EC and that time was rather short for the creation.

He said the NPP recognises that article 73 of the constitution mandates the EC to create to constituencies adding that "the EC should have done that in a deliberative manner and not in a rush".

Mr Afriyie said "the NPP would contest in all the 275 constituencies in the country and will perform better than before".

He said even though time was short for the creation, research conducted by the NPP indicated that the Party would win more seats in the new constituencies than any other political party in the country.

He said nominations for the newly created constituencies open on the 4th and closes on the 6th October, whiles vetting is on 9th and primaries is on 14th October.
